Panama City sits on the north shore of St. Andrews Bay, across the water from the beach. It's where a lot of locals eat, and parking is usually easier.

The St. Andrews neighborhood on the west side of town has a working marina, seafood on the water and a handful of small shops. Boat trips and fishing charters leave from the docks there.

Downtown, Harrison Avenue runs down to the marina, with the restored Martin Theatre a few blocks up. Go for dinner and walk the waterfront at sunset.

The Hathaway Bridge carries Highway 98 over the bay to the beach side, so staying in town doesn't mean giving up the sand.
